Dishwasher Not Cleaning Dishes

Dishwasher Repair San Diego

We all enjoy the feeling of having bright, clean dishes coming out of our dishwasher. On the other hand, it could be very upsetting when you see your dishes partially cleaned or your glassware with a white film on it at the end of the wash cycle. So, what creates this problem, and what can you do to correct it?

Make sure to clean the drain filter regularly if your dishwasher comes with one. That helps the dishwasher to drain dirty water correctly. Also, keep the spray arms clean and free of debris to ensure proper water spraying and distribution. Make sure that your dishwasher is getting enough water. If not, check the inlet valve and water supply.

Dirty Drain Filter

Clean the filter regularly (located at the bottom of your dishwasher). A dirty drain filter obstructs proper draining so that contaminated water is circulating inside the dishwasher. The dishes will not get clean because they are being washed with that same contaminated water. You should wash the drain filter with soap and a soft brush under running water to remove debris. Sometimes, you won't be able to remove debris from the filter completely. In that case, you need to replace the filter with the new one.

Load the Dishes Properly

Load the dishes properly, ensuring there's enough space between items. Make sure tall dishes don't block the spray arms. Verify nothing is blocking the detergent dispenser door. You should load items with the solid surface facing down and inward toward the spray arms.

Scrape the Food Off the Dishes

The detergent manufacturers discourage customers from pre-washing or rinsing the dishes because pre-washing represses detergent from working and cleaning. Enzymes in dish detergent should attach themselves to food particles. Without food on the dishes, they don't clean well. The only time you might pre-rinse dishes is when you're not going to run the dishwasher right away.

Clean the Spray Arms

Make sure to clean your dishwasher's spray arms to ensure they're not clogged. Rinse them under the faucet to see if any of the holes are plugged with debris. If they are, use a toothpick to loosen any debris caught in the holes.

If you haven’t had success using the steps above, it may be time to schedule your dishwasher service.
